Liposuction in Harrogate

Targeted fat removal for those hard to shift lumps that diet and exercise cannot budge. A same day procedure using sedation/general anaesthesia.

Liposuction is a form of surgery that removes localised excess fat deposits from specific regions of the body. It changes the proportions of the body to a more defined appearance.

Liposuction should never be considered a means to lose weight as it is designed to work in conjunction with an active lifestyle and proper nutrition.

✦ Overview

What is a liposuction?

Liposuction operates by breaking up fat cells, which were previously located in localised areas of the body. The procedure is done via the use of small incisions. The fat is then broken down and suctioned away using a cannula (a thin hollow tube) while your surgeon injects a saline solution containing both local anaesthetic and adrenaline directly into the area being treated. The mixture numbs the affected area and reduces bleeding. Additionally, this increases the likelihood of removing fat cells.

The process is called the tumescent technique and is what we use for liposuction or fat removal at Kliniken.

Will I regain the fat from the areas where I've undergone liposuction?

Once the fat has been removed through liposuction, the fat cells do not regenerate. Provided that you maintain a consistent weight, the shape of your body will remain altered. However, if you experience weight gain after undergoing liposuction, you may notice that fat accumulates in other parts of your body where you did not undergo liposuction.

Areas we operate on, the procedure and our methodology

This operation is typically done as a day case in our Harrogate clinic under sedation/general anaesthetic. We usually operate on multiple areas, including but not limited to, the abdomen, flank, thigh, upper arm and lower back.

At Kliniken, you see the same clinician at each stage of your care and no junior personnel replacing your consultant surgeon.

✦ Why patients choose a liposuction

Benefits of liposuction in Harrogate

In addition to the fact that liposuction is the least invasive way to alter the body's contours, there are three additional advantages associated with this type of surgery.

Targeted contour

Liposuction targets localised fat deposits that fail to respond to diet or exercise. Examples of typical target areas include: abdomen, love handles, thighs, upper arms, lower back, chin etc. Your surgeon will reshape these areas, not your total weight. Therefore, individuals who are close to achieving their desired total weight achieve the best results.

Permanent removal

Once the fat cells are removed through liposuction they do not regrow. As long as you maintain a stable weight post-surgery, the new shape will last. If you gain weight in the future, fat will accumulate in all areas of your body except those that your surgeon treated. That is why we encourage patients who reside in Yorkshire to stabilise their weight prior to having liposuction surgery and not post surgery.

Better clothing fit and silhouette

Most patients find the greatest visual advantage to be how clothing fits. In many cases patients report feeling better about themselves due to waistband sitting flat against the skin, sleeves loosening and trousers no longer riding up over the thighs. Many patients state that this change in silhouette is greater than any change noted in pounds lost.

✦ Is a liposuction procedure for you?

Signs you may be a candidate for liposuction in Harrogate

Liposuction suits some patients and does not for others. However, during your consultation with us for
liposuction in Harrogate, we will identify the factors that indicate what you are likely to achieve.

Are you currently maintaining a stable weight?
Is your BMI under 28?
Do you intend to continue to lose weight post-surgery?

Losing weight is the primary cause of dissatisfaction with liposuction. Liposuction addresses existing body fat. Therefore, if you plan to lose weight, you should consider other options before undergoing liposuction. The procedure works on what is already existing but not for what you are about to change.

✦ Honest risks of a liposuction prcedure

Risks of liposuction or fat removal

Liposuction has fewer complications than many other surgical procedures. However, like all surgeries,
there are some potential risks. These are discussed with you at the time of your consultation.

Contour irregularities

Contour irregularities

Although fat is removed from the body during liposuction, uneven settling can occur and small lumps may be visible once swelling has resolved. The majority of these resolve over 6 to 12 months. Those that do not. may require an additional minor procedure to correct them

Swelling and bruising

Swelling and bruising

Swelling is expected after liposuction. Bruising outside of the treated areas is also very common. This typically fades over 3 to 4 weeks. It takes about 6 to 12 months for the overall shape of the treated area to reach its final appearance.

Infection

Infection

The infection rate for liposuction is low. Our surgeons employ strict sterilization techniques and makes use of smaller incision points to minimize the possibility of infection occurring. Infections are rarely serious andd most can be effectively treated using oral antibiotics. A few may require further surgery to treat.

Skin sensation changes

Skin sensation changes

Numbness or tingling sensations to the treated area are relatively normal after undergoing liposuction. Nerve sensation usually returns on its own within 3 to 6 months. Some patients develop long term changes in sensation after undergoing liposuction.

Blood clots (DVT and PE)

Blood clots (DVT and PE)

The formation of blood clots deep in veins is a risk associated with general anaesthesia. Our surgeons employ several methods to help reduce the risk including using compression stockings and encouraging early movement to improve circulation. Patients with a history of developing abnormal blood clots should inform their surgeon prior to undergoing liposuction.

If you're not happy

If you're not happy

Ultimately, not every individual is satisfied with their results after undergoing liposuction. At the time of your six month clinical evaluation, your surgeon will have a discussion with you regarding your satisfaction level with the outcomes of your surgery.

How much does liposuction

✦ Frequently asked questions

FAQs on liposuction in Harrogate

Liposuction at Kliniken Harrogate starts from £4,053 for one area, £4,867 for two areas, £5,780 for three areas. Prices include surgeon, anaesthetist, theatre, general anaesthetic, consultation, follow-ups & compression garment. UK private liposuction typically ranges from £3,000 to £8,000 depending on areas treated, technique & clinic.

Your liposuction in Harrogate covers the surgeon's fee, anaesthetist's fee, theatre fees, general anaesthetic, pre-operative consultation, post-operative follow-ups, the compression garment. No hidden theatre charges, no separate facility fees.

Most patients return to desk based work within one to two weeks. Bruising fades over three to four weeks. Swelling settles gradually over three to six months. Final shape is visible at six to twelve months. Recovery time depends on the number of areas treated.

You wear the garment continuously for the first two to three weeks, then daytime-only for a further three to four weeks. Total wear is around six weeks. The garment controls swelling, supports the tissues as they heal & shapes the final result. Skipping it affects the outcome.

There is no fixed cap. Your surgeon determines a safe volume at consultation based on your weight, the areas being treated, your overall health, and how your body responds during surgery. What is safe for one patient is unsafe for another. We do not set an arbitrary maximum because liposuction is a patient-specific procedure, not a volume target.

No. Kliniken uses the tumescent technique with traditional suction-assisted liposuction. This is the most clinically established method, performed under general anaesthetic with a saline-anaesthetic solution that numbs the tissue & reduces bleeding. VASER is a marketing differentiator. Outcomes from skilled tumescent liposuction match VASER in independent comparisons.

Kliniken accepts patients with a BMI below 28 for liposuction. This is more conservative than some clinics. Liposuction is a contouring procedure for localised fat pockets in patients close to their goal weight. It is not a weight loss treatment. Patients above BMI 28 are usually advised to lose weight before surgery.

No. Liposuction removes fat from beneath the skin but does not affect the skin surface. Cellulite is caused by fibrous bands tethering the skin to underlying tissue. Stretch marks are caused by changes in the skin itself. Liposuction treats neither. Other treatments may be appropriate. Your surgeon will advise at consultation.

Fat cells removed during liposuction do not grow back. If you maintain a stable weight, results are permanent. If you gain weight, fat accumulates in untreated areas of the body rather than returning to treated areas. The most common reason patients are disappointed is weight gain after surgery.

You will see an immediate change once swelling reduces in the first few weeks. The true final result of liposuction is visible at six to twelve months, once all swelling has resolved. Most patients see a clear shape change by three months. Early before-and-after photos can be misleading.

The main risks of liposuction are contour irregularities, prolonged swelling or bruising, infection, temporary or permanent changes in skin sensation, blood clots, dissatisfaction with the final result. Your surgeon discusses these in detail at consultation. Plain language risk disclosure is part of the Kliniken approach.

At your 6 month clinical review, your surgeon assesses your liposuction result with you. We do not promise a free revision for cosmetic preference changes. We promise honest assessment.

Liposuction removes fat. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removes loose skin & repairs separated abdominal muscles after pregnancy. If your concern is fat, liposuction is the right procedure. If your concern is loose skin, stretch marks, or muscle separation, you need a tummy tuck. Your surgeon will assess at consultation.

No. Kliniken does not offer Brazilian Butt Lift or large volume gluteal fat transfer. The procedure carries an approximate 1% mortality risk due to fat embolism, the highest mortality rate of any cosmetic procedure. There are surgeons specifically trained to perform BBL safely under strict protocols. If this is the procedure you want, please research thoroughly & choose a clinic with specific BBL safety training.
