✦ Overview

What is a brow lift surgery?

A brow lift surgery moves the brow back into a more youthful position and smoothens out the area over the eyes to soften the signs of ageing. Brow lifts are sometimes referred to by other names such as forehead lift, eyebrow lift and browpexy. The advantage of a surgical browlift is that it treats the location of the brow itself, whereas non surgical brow treatments treat the muscle of the brow which surrounds the hairline as they do not move the actual brow. Many people choose to have their brow lift surgery done at the same time as their facelift or eye lift and some choose to have only brow lift done.
At Kliniken, the consultant you see is the same person who will also do brow lift surgery on you. The techniques used for the surgery will depend on your anatomy and it’s not a fixed default that we work upon on your brows.

Procedure detail: choosing the right technique

Not all brow lifts are done the same. They differ depending on the amount of lifting that needs to take place, and also by the area of the forehead being treated.

  • An endoscopic brow lift is the most commonly used procedure here at Kliniken. This procedure uses small incisions in the hair line and uses a camera system to guide the repositioning of tissues under the skin. With this method, scarring is very minor and almost undetectable. As a result, recovery time is usually quicker than with traditional brow lift procedures.
  • A temporal brow lift (also referred to as a lateral brow lift) will lift the outer tail of your eyebrow, while leaving the remaining areas of your forehead untouched. If the primary concern is lateral hooding or drooping of the outer parts of the eyebrow area then this may be the best choice.
  • A direct brow lift involves making an incision directly above the eyebrow. Although it can provide a quick solution to more pronounced sagging of the eyebrows, the direct brow lift has the disadvantage of having a more noticeable scar compared to the endoscopic technique.

These are some benefits of brow lift:

  • A lifted brow can relax forehead lines while bringing an expression of a well rested look on the face.
  • A few patients report improved visual acuity and some simply don’t want to always be seen as tired or upset by how their resting facial appearance appears and the boost in confidence that follows.
  • As opposed to addressing the skin on top of your eyebrows, a brow lift focuses on positioning them so the improvements are generally long lasting.

✦ What clinics don't talk about

Signs you may be a candidate for brow lift surgery

The best way to determine this would be to visit one of our consultant plastic surgeons at Kliniken. Typically good candidates are:

  • People whose brow has begun to fall due to aging.
  • Those experiencing deep horizontal forehead lines or vertical creases on their brows.
  • Those with genuine vision impairment caused by heavy or drooping brows.
  • Healthy adults who do not smoke as it will slow the healing process.
  • Anybody looking for a natural outcome rather than an obvious ‘done’ look.
✦ How will I recover after a brow lift?

Honest risks of a brow lift surgery

Like any surgery swelling, bruising and numbness along the sutured incision may be expected after a brow lift. These symptoms will typically resolve themselves in a few weeks time.

Less common, yet still possible complications include:

  • Infections
  • Noticeable scarring
  • Asymmetric lifting of the two brows
  • As with a temporal brow lift, there is a small chance to damage the branch of the facial nerve running through the treatment site. Although this is minimized by a skilled surgeon, it is never eliminated.
  • Over correction, another potential complication many patients have searched for when looking into “brow lift gone wrong”. When brows are elevated to the point they remain raised all the time, the appearance of a permanent surprised expression results instead of that which would be considered natural or relaxed.

what do we do To minimize these risks

As mentioned above, these factors help explain our surgeons to consider the extent and method of elevation during consultation and to not make them the final decisions on the day of the operation.

FAQs on brow lift in Harrogate

We use, most commonly an endoscopic brow lift procedure ,i.e, small incisions along the hairline guided by a camera to visualize the area and to provide very little noticeable scarring. The temporal or direct brow lifts could be best suited for you based upon the location and extent of sagging, as well as other considerations that are determined during your consultation.

As a general rule of thumb, you are a good candidate if your eyebrows have begun to droop due to aging, or if you are experiencing deep forehead wrinkles or horizontal creases between the brows. Good candidates are generally healthy, adult non-smokers. Your full suitability will be confirmed during your consultation.

You will meet with your surgeon for a comprehensive evaluation of your brows and upper eyelids. Because these areas often work hand in hand, they should be evaluated simultaneously. You will review your medical history, discuss your expectations, and determine which surgical approach is best suited to your individual anatomy.

Swelling and bruising are expected for approximately one to two weeks post-op. After the first two weeks, many patients report that their eyes look brighter and their overall facial expression appears more rested.

Anti-wrinkle injections can temporarily lift the eyebrow by relaxing the muscles responsible for pulling it downward. Unlike the long-lasting results of a surgical brow lift, the effects of anti-wrinkle injections typically last only three to four months. However, this remains a valuable option to discuss at consultation if you are not yet ready for surgery.

A brow lift performed as a day case under local anaesthesia costs from £2,650. Alternatively, if performed under general anaesthesia or sedation, the price starts from £5,250. Your exact price will be confirmed based on your individual surgical plan during your consultation.

Yes. Drooping eyebrows occur just as frequently in men as in women, and the surgical techniques are identical. Many male patients find that an endoscopic brow lift offers an ideal outcome, as incisions are well-concealed along or within the hairline to avoid visible scarring.

In limited cases where significantly drooping brows cause documented visual impairment, an NHS referral may be possible. For cosmetic rejuvenation alone, treatment is carried out privately.
