A browlift is a surgical procedure to lift the brow back to a youthful position. It is often performed with other procedures, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery.

Patients can typically have a browlift performed and go home the same day.
Patients can have the procedure under local anaesthetic or can be asleep with a general anaesthetic. The incision for a browlift is directly above the top line of the eyebrow.Â
Patients who are constantly having to use their forehead muscles due to being unable to see clearly at the edges of their visual fields.Â
This can result in significant creasing on the forehead, and in those patients who have had anti-wrinkle treatment, the drop in the brow can cause significant problems.
Some patients may have a genetic predisposition to this (Young people with heavy brows) or most commonly, age-related dropping of the brow.
When patients come into the clinic, our UK-trained plastic surgeon makes a full assessment of the patient.
This includes any relevant history, including reasons for surgery and a thorough examination of the brow and the upper eyelid itself.
Part of this process is explaining to the patients what can be done, why, and what to expect, based on each patients’ anatomy and suitability for each type of browlift.
Patients tend to notice an immediate improvement in the visual field.
The swelling after surgery occurs for the first 48 hours and after this stage, it improves. We see patients one week after surgery to check on the them and remove any visible stitches.
By 2 weeks patients feel brighter and fresher. Once safe, patients are let out of the clinic with close follow up arranged to ensure improvements would happen as anticipated.
The use of anti-wrinkle injections can be used to help the muscle that lifts the brow, with effects lasting for 3 to 6 months this depends on the muscle mass.Â
Surgically, there are a number of different types of browlifts available from open, endoscopic, endotine and direct browlifts.Â
Patients can check their suitability for a browlift by asking another person to show where the eyebrows sit when the patient’s eyes are closed and the forehead is relaxed. Â
If the brow is below the bony prominence, they would likely benefit from a browlifting procedure.
